23 March 2012

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently decided to withdraw the auxiliary staff and the family members of Romania’s Embassy to Damascus.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to withdraw the auxiliary staff and family members of the Romanian Embassy in Damascus. Also, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs uses this opportunity to renew the recommendation to Romanian citizens still in Syria, to leave as soon as possible by commercial means of transport that are still operational - air, sea and land,” reads a statement from the ministry.

Armed clashes continued in Syria, despite the UN call for a cease fire. According to U.N. estimates, more than 8,000 people have been killed since the uprising began last March.
