Six foreign tourists get lost or remain blocked at high altitudes in Romanian mountains

13 March 2017

Six foreign tourists needed to be rescued from Romanian mountains after getting lost or remaining blocked at high altitudes.

On Sunday evening, a joint team made of gendarmes from Bran Mountain Police and mountain rescuers from Bran Mountain Rescue Service saved three German tourists who got lost in Bucegi Mountains.

The saving mission was a difficult one, mainly due to the low visibility caused by the dense fog and the fresh layer of snow, of some 25 cm. The tourists were found at an altitude of around 1,900 meters, in an area with difficult access.

None of the three German tourists (opening picture) needed medical care. They spent the night in Bran mountain resort.

On Monday, the authorities had to rescue a group of three Israeli citizens who remained blocked in a refuge near Moldoveanu Peak in Fagaras Mountains, reports local News.ro. This was also a difficult mission due to the avalanche risk.

The mountain rescuers said the tourists were not equipped properly and this is why they weren’t able to descend on their own.
