Some 1.48 million foreign tourists were accommodated in Romanian hotels and boarding houses in the first nine months of 2014, spending some RON 3.73 billion (EUR 840 million), according to recent data from the National Statistics Institute INS.

Over 60% of the foreign tourists traveled to Romania for business purposes, their spending representing 66.3% of the total. Only 39% of the foreign tourists came to Romania for personal reasons, which include holidays, shopping, sports, cultural events, medical treatment, or just to visit friends.

In the third quarter of 2014, the number of foreign tourists accommodated in Romanian hotels and boarding houses amounted to 641,000, according to INS. They spent some RON 1.5 billion in this period (some EUR 337 million).
