The foreign tourists who visited Romania in the first six months of this year spent RON 2,200 (EUR 478) per person, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Over 1.2 million non-resident tourists found a place in one of Romania’s accommodation units during this period. Their expenses totaled RON 2.6 billion (EUR 576 million).

Some 759,000 foreign tourists spent RON 1.6 billion (EUR 352 million) in Romania between April and June.

Non-resident tourists mainly came for businesses, conferences, fairs or exhibitions in the second quarter of the year.  They spent most on accommodation (51.8%), restaurants and bars (19.2%) or shopping (13.4%).
