The hotels and guesthouses in Romania accommodated over 975,000 foreign tourists, who spent a total of EUR 583 million in the first half of the year. About half of the money went on accommodation, according to data from the National Statistics Institute INS. The average spending was about EUR 600 per person.

The total amounts spent by foreign tourist were 17% higher compared to the first half of 2014, as the number of tourists who visited Romania was also 16% higher.

Almost 60% of the tourists who visited Romania in the first six months came for business or other work-related events. They generated over 65% of the total expenses, or EUR 379 million. Business tourists spent 54% of their budget on accommodation, 17% on going out to restaurants or bars, 6.4% on transport, and 12.2% on shopping.

Tourists who came to Romania for holidays and other private reasons spent some EUR 204 million. They also spent most of their budget on accommodation (46%) while a similar share went on shopping, leisure activities, and eating out.
