Foreigners spend EUR 60 mln annually on health treatments in Romania
Over 20,000 foreigners come to Romania annually for medical procedures, especially for cosmetic surgery and dental treatment, and spend over EUR 60 million on health services, accommodation and food, according to representatives from the tourism and healthcare areas.
“There are no official statistics, but after our talks with representatives in medical tourism, we can estimate that over 20,000 foreigners came last year for medical tourism in Romania,” Dragos Raducan, vice president of the Federation of Employers from Romanian Tourism (FPTR) told local news agency Mediafax.
According to the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT), a foreigner spends, on average, between EUR 1,500 and EUR 2,000 for a medical intervention in Romania. The average spending on accommodation and food also reaches some EUR 1,500.
Most of these foreigners come from the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Israel and are aged between 40 and 60, according to Razvan Nacea, the ANAT spokesman.
