Former Romanian Economy Minister gets second nomination for Nobel Prize
The Writer’s Union in Armenia has nominated writer Varujan Vosganian, a former Minister of Economy in Romania, for the 2015 Nobel Prize for Literature, reports Araratonline.com, a publication of the Armenian Union in Romania. Vosganian was also nominated for the Nobel Prize last year.
Vosganian’s novel The Book of Whispers (Cartea Soaptelor) was already translated into ten languages, and five more versions will be prepared this year.
Varujan Vosganian was born in Craiova, Romania, to a family of Armenian ethnicity. He was Romania’s Minister of Economy and graduated the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.
In 2014, the Writers’ Union in Romania proposed Nicolae Breban, Mircea Cartarescu, Norman Manea and Varujan Voganian for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Last year’s winner was French writer Patrick Modiano.
The Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded 107 times since 1901, to 111 individuals. It was not awarded on seven occasions: in 1914, 1918, 1953, 1940, 1941, 1942 and 1943. More facts on the Nobel Prize in Literature here.
