Former Romanian Finance Minister to be EIB vice-president
Former Finance Minister Ioana Petrescu will replace Mihai Tanasescu as vice-president of the European Investment Bank (EIB).
Romania has already sent the proposal, reports local Digi24.
The country is under pressure to withdraw Mihai Tanasescu, after his name was included in the Microsoft case that targets the acquisition of IT licenses by the Romanian state at unjustified prices. Tanasescu is accused of receiving a USD 90,000 bribe back when he was Finance Minister.
Tanasescu took over as EIB vice-president in 2012. The salary for this position amounts to EUR 20,000 per month.
Ioana Petrescu, 35, was Romania’s Finance Minister for a short period, between March and December 2014. She graduated from Mihai Viteazul high school in Romania, and holds a B.A. in economics and mathematics from Wellesley College and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
The European Investment Bank is one of the largest European banks, whose shareholders are the European countries. The EIB is also one of the largest investors in Romania.
