Former Romanian PM transferred to prison hospital, court to decide on delay in sentence execution
Former Prime Minister Adrian Nastase, who recently tried to commit suicide after being convicted to two years in jai,l was taken to the Rahova prison on Tuesday evening (June 26 ), after staying for a couple of days in the Floreasca Emergency Hospital in Bucharest.
Nastase was placed in the prison's hospital, as he is recovering after neck surgery. The former PM, convicted in a corruption case, shot himself in the neck last week after learning the final court decision. He is now sharing the room at the Rahova prison hospital with another inmate.
Meanwhile, the request his lawyers filed to delay the execution of the jail sentence will go to court on Thursday (June 28 ).
Nastase's suicide attempt on June 20 made newspaper headlines all over the world. After the shooting, he was rushed to the hospital where he went through surgery the next day.
The anti-corruption authorities recently started investigating the doctor who treated Nastase and three Police officers, for having allegedly favored the former PM and for hindering the execution of the sentence.
