Former Romanian PM Victor Ciorbea elected new Ombudsman
Former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ciorbea was elected Ombudsman after a vote from the two Houses of Parliament.
His candidacy has gathered 306 votes ‘in favor’ and just two votes ‘against’. Ciorbea has been proposed for this position by the Social Democratic Party PSD parliamentary groups. His 5-year mandate can be renewed only once.
Ciorbea was a Prime Minister between 1996 and 1998, as well as Bucharest mayor between 1996 and 1997.
Aged 59, he is currently a senator, having been elected in 2012, as member of the National Liberal Party PNL.
