Former Romanian president Traian Basescu, oficially retired. How much does he earn a month now?
Traian Basescu, Romania's former president, officially retired on November 4, 2014 when he turned 63, and already received RON 5,166 (EUR 1,148), representing his pension for November and December, according to data from the last statement of his assets, posted on the Presidential Administration website.
This puts his pension at some EUR 570 a month, three times the average pension level in Romania, of some EUR 190 a month. Basescu is now one of the country's 5.3 million pensioners. As the country's president, he made some RON 70,000 in 2014, or some EUR 1,300 a month. At the end of his mandate, he had some USD 52,000 in his bank accounts, as well as some RON 35,000 - the equivalent of some EUR 7,800.
Together with his wife, the former president owns two plots of land in Bucharest of 174 sqm, respectively 46 sqm, which were acquired in 2003, according to the income and assets declaration issued at the end of his mandate in December 2014.
He also has a 370 sqm apartment in Bucharest, acquired in 2003, and another one in Constanta, of 46 sqm, inherited from his parents in 2011.
The former head of state also owns two cars, a Dacia Duster purchased in 2010 and a Ford Bmax bought in 2012. Basescu owns jewelry purchased between 1975 and 2014 worth EUR 25,000, watches worth EUR 47,000 and paintings worth EUR 19,000. His full income statement upon leaving his presidential seat is here.
He served as Romania's president for two consecutive mandates, from 2004.
