Free rides on "Bucharest's Mocanita" steam train in Romania’s capital this June
Tourists and Bucharest residents can enjoy a free ride with “Bucharest’s Mocanita” (steam train) between June 10 and June 15. The train will run daily between 09,00 and 17,00, on a distance of some 150 meters between the CFR Museum and the Basarab metro station in Bucharest.
Mocanita’s presence in Bucharest is part of the “Thesaurus of History, Culture and Railway Technology. The CFR Museum 75 years after the inauguration” event organized by CENAFER in partnership with District 1 City Hall.
The CFR Museum was inaugurated 75 years ago on June 10. On this occasion, the museum organizes a series of events that will promote the importance of railways.
On June 13, a special passenger train consisting of the most modern electric locomotive and most modern passenger cars will travel on the route Bucharest - Cernavoda Pod - Constanta. The train will stop for 20 minutes in the Cernavoda Pod station, where passengers can visit the Carol I bridge, designed and built by engineer Anghel Saligny, according to a statement of the District 1 City Hall.
Fans of railway history can also attend an exhibition and admire a steam train at Gara de Nord in Bucharest. During the event, the old train, built in 1869, will make two round-trips between Gara de Nord and Gara Regala Baneasa, on a daily basis.
