French guide 'A la Carte' picks favorite restaurants in Romania

16 August 2011

A new restaurant guide put together by French Nicholas Andrieu and Didier Ousset lists seven favorite restaurants in Bucharest and elsewhere in Romania and ranks others by the quality of food, décor, quality of service and the quality/price ratio.

The latter seems to be an issue in Romania, although here one can find comparable food to France, for example, but at better prices, Nicholas Andrieu tells Romania-Insider.com. However, the quality of service still needs to be improved on the Romanian market overall.

The most appreciated restaurants listed in the 'A la Carte' guide are Bistro Epoque (French, 17C Intrarea Aurora), Cantine de Nicolai (15-17 Povernei St, French), Benihana (5-7 Calea Dorobantilor, inside Howard Johnson hotel, Japanese), Belvedere (Brasov, international), Ici Et La (French, 43 Mendeleev St.), Osho (steak house, 19-21 Primaverii Blvd.), Osteria Gioia (Italian, 16 Ion Mihalache Blvd.) and Casa cu Flori in Timisoara.

Based on the quality of food/price ratio, the ranking includes Belvedere (on the first spot), followed by Chez Marie in Bucharest, Ici Et La, Cantine de Nicolai and Casa cu Flori in Timisoara.

The yearly guide, at its first edition, has used evaluators who have been trained by the Compagnie de Tour de France des Toque Gourmandes and who took turns visiting the restaurants they have reviewed. More about the guide here.
