The Danube partially froze blocking ship traffic in the Tulcea city area, according to data from the country's National Defense Ministry. Commercial ships are forbidden on that part of the river. The river around the Galati and Braila harbors is however open, even though ice blocks have formed in some areas.

Romania is under an Orange Code for ice until Friday morning, with temperatures expected to go as low as minus 27ºC.
