The newly decided property tax on special constructions could bring a yearly cost of EUR 40,000 for each wind turbine in Romania, which could generate an extra cost of EUR 30 million for the whole renewable energy sector in Romania, according to an estimation from the Association for Wind Energy.

The tax of 1.5 percent of the value of the construction, which the Government plans to introduce, would apply to the estimated EUR 2.5 billion investments in wind energy projects in Romania, according to Ionel David, executive director of the Romanian Association for Wind Energy, quoted by Mediafax newswire.

The new tax will also apply to hydro power plans, transformation posts, constructions for electricity transport, oil wells and telecom cables, among others, and any other auxiliary constructions.

The wind energy segment will not be the only one affected, and the Association of Electricity Suppliers in Romania has already warned that the new tax will cause a spike in the final electricity price.
