Gabriela Melinescu's book 'Mother like God, in limelight in Stockholm

The Romanian Cultural Institute in Stockholm will hold a discussion on Wednesday, at its headquarters in the Swedish Capital, on the latest volume signed Gabriela Melinescu, the novel "Mamma som gud" ("Mother like God").  The book was recently published by Albert Bonniers Forlag Publishing House.  The author will participate in the discussion alongside writer Agneta Pleijel and the book editor, Gunnar Nirstedt, a press release informs.

The autobiographical novel "Mamma som gud" deals with the image of femininity through the figure of the mother and the two grandmothers of the writer. From the perspective of her exile in Sweden (the country where Gabriela Melinescu settled since 1975), the author describes her childhood and youth spent in Romania and how the three female characters influenced her life and literary style.

Gabriela Melinescu (born in 1942) is recognized as one of the Swedish literary writers who have managed to integrate into another language and culture, as well as a tireless promoter of the Romanian literature in Sweden. She has ten books published between 1975-1988 by Coeckelberghs Publishing House, and starting with 1881, till present, five volumes (short stories, novels and poetry) were published by Albert Bonniers Forlag.
