Gas pipeline to connect Black Sea and Giurgiu County in Romania

03 December 2014

Romania will focus on building a gas pipeline connecting the Black Sea to Podisor in Giurgiu County, in a project worth EUR 230 million, said Razvan Nicolescu, the Minister for Energy.

"For Romania, the most important natural gas infrastructure project is the Dobrogea-Podisor gas pipeline that will bring gas from the Black Sea to the Romanian transport system. It is a project worth EUR 230 million which we hope to carry it out with financial support from the European Commission," Nicolescu added, cited by local Mediafax.

Romanian oil & gas company OMV Petrom and US group ExxonMobil discovered in 2012 in the Black Sea a deposit estimated at 42-84 billion cubic meters of gas.

Gas production from the bedding is expected to begin towards the end of this decade.
