Gazprom – owned company NIS wants to buy Rompetrol's gas stations in Romania

19 July 2011

Serbian oil and gas company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), controlled by Russian company Gazprom has made an offer to buy Romania-based oil and gas chain Rompetrol's gas stations in Romania. “It wouldn't be a logic move, given that Rompetrol also owns a refinery in Romania,” said Saduokhas Meraliyev, Rompetrol's CEO. The company's gas stations chain in Romania has been evaluated at around EUR 600 million.

Rompetrol Downstream, which runs gas stations in six countries, has 800 such units in Romania, out of a total of 1,100. Rompetrol is controlled by KazMunaiGaz in Kazakhstan.
