Wanted businessman brought back to Romania from Italy

29 August 2017

Genica Boerica, a local businessman wanted internationally for economic crimes, was caught in Italy and brought back to Romania.

Boerica was sentenced to ten years and three months in prison back in 2014, in a case targeting illegal VAT refunds worth over EUR 4.5 million. However, the police couldn’t find him after the court ruled the sentence, so they issued an arrest warrant on his name.

“On the night of August 28 to August 29, an escort of the Romanian Police took over from Italy and brought into the country a man wanted internationally by the Romanian judicial authorities as he was sentenced to 10 years and 3 months imprisonment for economic crimes,” the Romanian Police announced in a press release.

The authorities found Boerica in Italy on June 22, and the Milan Court of Appeal approved his extradition on August 16.

In 2015, rumors said that Genica Boerica died in Mexico.
