Biggest supermarket chain in Romania launches online travel agency

German retailer Lidl, the first supermarket chain in Romania to pass the EUR 1 billion mark in sales, will enter the local tourism market with Lidl Tour, an online platform where the Romanians will be able to book holidays. The service will be available starting June 15.

Via Lidl Tour, the company will promote travel packages specifically designed for its customers, and the Romanians will be able to book or purchase holidays online or through a dedicated hotline.

The offers will include tourist packages for any period of the year, to a multitude of destinations, including beautiful places in Romania, according to a company statement. The clients will also be able to choose packages for destinations abroad, the Lidl Tour offer including cruises and tours.

Lidl currently offers its Lidl Tour service in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Italy. The Romanians will be able to book and purchase holidays on lidl-tour.ro or through the dedicated hotline 0800 896 242.

The Lidl Tour offers will be available starting June 15 in dedicated brochures, which can be found in all Lidl stores across Romania, on lidl-tour.ro, and on the service’s Facebook page.

Lidl almost tripled its profit in Romania last year while its sales went up by 21%. The retailer has 192 stores throughout the country.
