German retailer Lidl closes down store in Romania
One of the three Lidl stores in Drobeta-Turnu Severin in Romania closed down starting May 1. All employees of the store received alternative solutions to remain within the company, according to Lidl representatives's statement.
“Being built on a rented land, the Lidl store originally belonged to Plus store chain. The decision of closing it was took because the store no longer met Lidl’s standards and it became unprofitable,” according to company representatives.
However, the retailer continues the expansion plans in Romania and estimates it will open 15 new stores by the end of the year. Lidl runs 167 stores in Romania, according to its most recent data.
