German retailer Lidl to open two new stores in Romania

Discounter Lild will open two new stores in Romania on November 7, expanding its network in the country to 122 stores, according to the company. The two new units will be opened in the Romanian city Slatina, Olt county, and Ploiesti, Prahova county.

In early-2011, the company has officially opened the 107 re-branded stores it took over from Plus Discount last year, and started to build new units across the country.

With over 2,000 employees in Romania, Lidl is part of Lidl & Schwartz group, which also owns the Kaufland stores in Romania. Lidl had sales of EUR 346 million last year in Romania, through the former Plus Discount network, according to data from the Finance Ministry. The company posted a loss of EUR 58.8 million last year in the country.
