German tourist dies in Romania’s Piatra Craiului Mountains
A German tourist has died in Romania’s Piatra Craiului Mountains after suffering a heart attack and falling off a cliff, reports local Mediafax. He had to be taken out by helicopter.
Ioan Pivoda, the head of the mountain rescue department in Zarnesti, told local Mediafax that the heart attack killed the 67-year-old German tourist, not the injuries suffered due to the 10-meter fall.
“We were informed through the National Salvamont Dispatch Center that in our area, in Piatra Craiului, namely on a tourist route in Piatra Craiului Mica, a tourist was injured after falling about ten meters, but that he was conscious,” Pivoda said.
“Later I received the information that the tourist stopped breathing and that he didn’t had a pulse for a very long time, although those who were there tried to resuscitate him. A Swedish tourist with medical skills happened to pass by. I realized that the fall didn’t happen because of negligence, but because he had a heart attack and fell. In my opinion, the fall didn’t put his life at risk.”
The German tourist was in Piatra Craiului Mountains with a group of friends.
