GfK: Romania's durable consumer goods market up 12.7% in first nine months

Romania's durable consumer goods sales rose by 12.7% in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2016 to EUR 1.8 billion, according to the GfK Temax market survey published on Thursday.

The durable goods category includes products such as vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, washing machines, TVs, computers, laptops, mobile phones, tablets, printers and cameras.

The local telecom market reached EUR 747 million during this period, up 24.9% year-on-year. The sale of smartphones with large screens recorded the highest growth in the third quarter of this year.

The small appliance market grew by 18.7% in the first nine months of this year to EUR 144 million, according to GfK data. The full-automatic coffee machine was the growth engine in the third quarter of this year.

The photo camera segment increased by 12.9% in the first nine months of this year to EUR 18 million. The electronics segment grew by 9.7% in the first nine months, compared to the same period last year, to EUR 286 million. The large appliances segment posted an advance of 5% to EUR 403 million.

Meanwhile, the IT equipment market fell by 0.6% in the first nine months, to EUR 269 million.
