Glaze ice causes multiple car accidents on Romanian highway

16 November 2016

Two multiple car accidents occurred on Romania’s A2 highway, which connects Bucharest to the Black Sea port of Constanta, due to glaze ice on the road, on Wednesday morning, November 16.

A total of 17 cars were involved in the crashes (ten on the way to Constanta, and seven on the way to Bucharest), and 22 people were injured, reports local Agerpres. Fortunately, only four of them were taken to the hospital, and none of them were in serious condition.

According to Infotrafic, the accidents happened because the drivers failed to adapt the speed to the conditions of an icy road. The drivers are advised to reduce the speed, to increase the safety distance between cars, and to drive cautiously.

Another car crash occurred later the same morning, at km 21 of the A2 highway. Two cars were involved in the crash, and two people were injured.

A serious multiple-vehicle collision occurred on the same highway some 10 days ago. More than 50 people were injured in that car crash, and four lost their lives. According to the police, the accident occurred because the drivers didn’t adapt their speed to the traffic conditions (fog and low visibility) and didn’t keep enough distance to the cars in front. The state company that manages the road infrastructure had installed warnings on the highway that told drivers to reduce their speed to 60 km per hour that morning because of the dense fog.
