Romanian students got five gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the 48th edition of the Mendeleev International Chemistry Olympiad organized between May 11 and May 17 in Moscow, Russia.

“It’s the best result in the history of Romania’s participation in the competition, making Romania come first in the teams ranking. Romania surpassed the host country, Russia, which won only three gold medals out of a possible 10,” reads a statement of the Romanian Ministry of Education.

The five Romanian students that received gold at the Olympiad are: Andreea Maria Filip, Stefan Bogdan Ivan, Dumitru Calugaru, Andrei Iliescu and Radu Costin Bizgă-Nicolescu.

Vlad-Mihai Mandric got the silver medal, while Gabriel Dragos Negreanu won bronze.

Over 100 students from 16 countries participated at this year’s edition of the competition.
