RO Govt. will increase budget for program stimulating electric car purchases
Romania’s Government will increase by RON 60 million (EUR 12.4 mln) the budget allotted this year to the Rabla Plus program, aimed at stimulating the acquisition of electric vehicles.
The new budget for this program will be RON 200 mln (EUR 41.4 mln), which is enough to subsidize the acquisition of 4,000 electric vehicles, environment minister Costel Alexe announced on Thursday, August 27.
“We must continue on this path and stimulate the purchase of electric cars if we all want to really breathe cleaner air in Romania’s big cities. For this, we decided to supplement the AFM budget for the Rabla Plus Program, to support all Romanians who want to purchase an electric or hybrid car, friendly to the environment,” minister Alexe said.
He pointed out that the program will finance the acquisition of 4,000 such vehicles this year, more than the cumulated level in the previous three years, when about 3,000 electric or hybrid cars were purchased through Rabla Plus.
The minister added that the initial budget allotted to the program this year, RON 140 mln, has already been spent as Romanians have bought more green cars.
“It is an unexpected success, especially given the pandemic conditions, in which the car industry has been suffering. Still, this shows that the Romanians’ appetite for modern, low-emission electric cars has increased,” Costel Alexe said.
Romania offers an eco-bonus of EUR 10,000 to Romanians who buy electric cars, one of the highest such subsidies in the EU.
