Romanian film lands European Film Academy nomination
Romanian drama Graduation, directed by Cristian Mungiu, is nominated at this year’s People’s Choice Awards of the European Film Academy (EFA).
The film brought Mungiu the Best Director award at Cannes in 2016. He shared the distinction that year with French Olivier Assayas. It was Mungiu’s third prize at Cannes, after the Palm d’Or he won in 2007 for 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, and the Best Screenplay award in 2012 for Beyond the Hills.
Last year, the film was also nominated for the European Screenwriter, European Director, and the EFA Feature Film Selection awards.
Past winners of the People’s Choice Awards include Amélie, Hasta La Vista, Ida, Slumdog Millionaire and The King’s Speech. In 2016, the EFA People's Choice Award went to Body by Małgorzata Szumowska.
Among this year’s nominees are: Bridget Jones’s Baby, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Like Crazy. The full list is available here.
The 30th edition of the European Film Awards takes place on December 9 in Berlin.
