Grain traders in Romania increase their revenues but report losses
The five biggest grain traders in Romania had cumulated sales of over EUR 2.1 billion in 2015, 4.5% higher compared to 2014.
However, they reported overall losses of EUR 12 million, according to data from the Ministry of Finance, as the local drought and the lower grain prices in international markets have affected the agribusiness sector.
American group Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) regained its market leader position in 2015, with a turnover of EUR 535 million, 3.4% higher than in 2014. The company had losses of EUR 2.6 million, down from a EUR 11 million profit in the previous year.
Swiss trader Ameropa Holding was second, with EUR 533 turnover, up 7.7% year-on-year. Ameropa made a net profit of EUR 3.1 million, slightly down compared to 2014.
American group Cargill, the former market leader, fell to third with EUR 470 million sales, down 10% year-on-year. Cargill posted EUR 18 million losses, slightly lower than in 2014.
Brisegroup and Glencore Protein are the other two grain traders in top 5.
