Half a million Romanians unemployed, but rate drops in March
Romania had slightly over half a million unemployed people in March, when the unemployment rate in the country went down to 5.56 percent, a drop of 0.27 percentage points month – on – month, according to the Labor Force Occupancy Agency. The year-on-year drop in unemployment rate was of only 0.02 percentage points.
The country had 503,000 unemployed people in March, down 24,300 on February. The biggest unemployment rates were recorded in Vaslui county – 11.5 percent, Mehedinti – 10.3 percent, Teleorman – 10.1 percent, Dolj – 9.6 percent, Alba – 9.30 percent.
The group of unemployed people under 25 is made of 62,000 people, while 40,900 unemployed people are 25 to 29. The biggest group is made of people aged 40 to 49 – 143,000 people, followed by those aged 30 to 39 – some other 117,000 people. Romania has 67,000 unemployed between 50 and 55, and 71,300 people aged above 55 who were not employed in March.
Most of the unemployed do not receive unemployment payments – only 166,000 people were on unemployment pay from the state in March.
