Almost half of Romania’s tax revenues come from 1,500 companies
The large contributors to Romania’s state budget, which include almost 1,500 companies, paid taxes and contributions worth EUR 8.1 billion in the first five months of this year, namely 45% of the total amount collected by the tax agency ANAF. The total taxes collected in this period amounted to EUR 18.2 billion.
The big taxpayers paid EUR 685.6 million worth of taxes on profits in the first five months, 10.8% more than the level estimated at the beginning of this year. The amount represents 42% of the total taxes on profits ANAF collected in the first five months.
They also paid EUR 2.2 billion worth of excise duties and vice taxes, or 94% of the total such taxes collected by ANAF, and EUR 2.2 billion worth of VAT, which is 45% of the total VAT collected, according to ANAF’s data.
The tax agency ANAF was reorganized at the beginning of this year when a separate division dedicated to large taxpayers was created. The division, which has 620 inspectors, manages the tax collection from 1,491 large taxpayers, with turnovers over EUR 20 million.
In the first five months of this year, the division verified 307 companies.
