Romania’s tax agency sells 150-year-old haunted hotel

18 July 2017

Romania’s tax agency ANAF wants to sell the Decebal Hotel in Baile Herculane, Caras-Severin County, in an auction scheduled for July 25, reports local Profit.ro.

The Decebal Hotel, formerly known as Franz Iosif Hotel, was built in 1865. The building is said to be haunted by a woman who is guarding a Roman treasure hidden in the hotel.

The website of Herculane City Hall also presents the hotel as being a haunted place.

“The Decebal Hotel in Hercules Square ranked fourth in the “10 Haunted Hotels” top made by America Tours in 2010-2011, which presented the ghost of a woman, seen by a couple of tourists. A local legend says that a Roman treasure had been hidden beneath the foundation of the 150-year-old Decebal Hotel, the ghost keeping treasure hunters away,” reads the presentation on the City Hall’s website.

The hotel covers slightly over 7,000 sqm and is derelict. However, the building is undergoing restoration. The Microroyal company in Timis is managing the hotel.

ANAF has set a starting price of RON 5.65 million (EUR 1.2 million), without VAT, according to Profit.ro.
