Head of IMF: Romania, close to a halt of payments, on the brink of disaster
Dominique Strauss-Kahn (in picture), the head of the International Monetary Fund, has recently said in a TV interview that Romania and several other European states are on the brink of disaster, but that he didn't believe in bankruptcy. He mentioned Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Hungary and Romania.
“The situation needs to be fixed, we cannot continue this way. The halt of payment is imminent. The abyss is right in front. I don't believe in bankruptcy. I think European solidarity will avoid this, but this means harsh policies and measures are needed, and these countries continue to be the most vulnerable, too, in the biggest danger. This is why programs to protect social policies need to be adopted,” said Strauss-Kahn.
