Heat wave over Romania marking the warmest year. See this week's prognosis

A heat wave will approach Romania in the next couple of days, with its peak in two days. You should expect higher temperatures starting today. There will be 32 degrees Celsius in Bucharest this week and 35 degrees Celsius elsewhere in the South of the country, which will be up 10 degrees Celsius compared to last week. Thursday will be the warmest day of this week, with around 35 degrees Celsius in the South of Romania. However, North and North West areas of Romania might see more rain, similarly to the previous days. This marks the beginning of summer in Romania, after a couple of months of oscillating temperatures. 2010 is expected to the be the warmest year all over the world in the last 130 years. The warmest year so far was 2005, the year of the hurricane Katrina. Such warm years are usually associated with floods and large hurricanes.

Summers in Romania have been very warm and dry in the last couple of years. The summer of 2007 was the warmest in Romania in the last 100 years, with maximum temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius over several consecutive days. The maximum temperature then was of 44.3 degrees Celsius at  Calafat. This was only 0.2 degrees Celsius below the record maximum ever in Romania, registered in 1951.
