Heavy rain alert in Bucharest, showery weather expands to the weekend
The capital Bucharest, the largest part of Muntenia, southeastern Transylvania, and southwestern Moldova are under a yellow code warning for rain today, June 28.
The National Meteorology Administration (ANM) has issued a warning for 17 counties, namely Suceava, Harghita, Neamţ, Bacău, Covasna, Braşov, Argeş, Dâmboviţa, Prahova, Buzău, Vrancea, Brăila, Ialomiţa, Călăraşi, Giurgiu, Tulcea, and Constanţa, in addition to Bucharest. The warning is in place until 23:00.
The rainfall is expected to reach 20 – 30 liters per sqm, and in some cases 50 – 60 liters per sqm.
The ANM expects rain in most regions of the country until Saturday, June 30, with significant rainfall especially in the extra-Carpathian regions and in the mountains. The meteorologists also issued a moderate rain and atmospheric instability report valid until Friday, June 29, at 10:00.
So far, the rain of the past hours caused flooding in several localities in the counties of Vrancea and Buzău, while in Bacău county over 350 households and homes were flooded during the night of June 27 to June 28.
A yellow code warning for river flooding is in place in the counties of Gorj, Dolj, Olt and Vâlcea on June 28 until 18:00.
