High temperatures cause train delays in Romania

13 August 2014

With high temperatures forecasted in Romania this week, freight and passenger trains are expected to register delays of up to 40 minutes, according to a statement of the Romanian railway company CFR, cited by local Agerpres.

“Between August 12 and August 14, due to the high temperatures recorded in the air and at the ground level, speed limits will be imposed for train traffic,” reads the statement.

The introduction of speed limits will cause, on average, delays of 30-40 minutes. In the case of trains traveling on long distances, there can be delays of up to 60 minutes.

“The measure to reduce the speed in certain time intervals, when temperatures exceed the normal limits, is a mandatory measure taken for the safety of rail traffic,” according to CFR.

Information about the delays can be obtained from train stations and CFR agencies across the country.

Romania’s Meteorological Association (ANM) has issued a weather warning for August 13 and August 14, forecasting high temperatures of up to 37 degrees Celsius. In some areas, the temperatures can reach 38 degrees Celsius.

After this period, heavy rains and strong winds are expected in several areas of the country.
