Household deposits in lei increase 1% in Romania in February
Household and corporate deposits increased by 0.6% in February compared to the previous month reaching over RON 272 billion (EUR 59.7 billion), according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR).
Household deposits in local currency went up by 1%, reaching RON 104.5 billion (EUR 22.9 billion) at the end of February. Corporate deposits in lei saw a monthly increase of 0.4% in February reaching RON 81 billion (EUR 17.7 billion).
When compared to February 2016, household deposits in lei saw an increase of 12.7% while corporate deposits in lei went up by 9.6% year-on-year. The household and corporate deposits in foreign currency recorded an annual increase of 3.2%.
Individuals continued to make deposits in foreign currency and the household deposits in foreign currency increased by 9.1% year-on-year. Meanwhile, corporate deposits in foreign currency dropped by 8.2% year-on-year.
