Households in Romania get gas exclusively from internal production

05 July 2016

The population will consume natural gas exclusively from the internal production in the next nine months, according to a decision of the Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). The reason behind the decision is the safety of supply, reports local Economica.net.

Gas prices from domestic production have remained at RON 60 (EUR 13.2) per MWh, after the Government has decided to postpone the liberalization deadline and freeze it at this value. However, the price of gas stored in local storage facilities, which will account for about 32% of the household consumption, is RON 81 (EUR 18) per MWh.

The import gas prices start from RON 70 (EUR 15.5) per MWh, so it would be cheaper for consumers to import gas rather than use the gas from internal storage units.

ANRE has decided to use natural gas from internal production mainly due to supply safety reasons.
