Romania currently has over 6 million employees and 5.1 million retired people, said Liviu Pop, Minister Delegate for Social Dialogue. It is the first time in the last three years when the number of people working with individual employment contracts exceeds that of pensioners.

The number of people employed with individual labor contracts has increased by more than 400,000 since April 2012, according to Pop, reports local Agerpres.

The number of employees could further increase in the next years, due to the new Fiscal Code. The minister said that reducing the social contributions by 5% and cutting the VAT rate on food has led to the increase in the total number of individual work contracts.
