How many young Romanians study abroad?

01 March 2016

More than 45,000 young Romanians study abroad at various education levels, the number growing at a rate of 20% per year, according to data from IntergralEdu.

Most of the Romanian students choose to study IT, business management, media and communication, hotel management, and engineering.

Although studying abroad has become more accessible in recent years thanks to the systems of scholarships and loans granted by several states, the Romanian families’ income should be above average to cover other costs related to their children stay abroad, such as food and accommodation.

“The higher costs, which parents usually don’t take into account, come from covering the daily living costs. And we’re talking about an average of between EUR 8,000-12,000 per year, which covers the rent, the plane tickets, the health insurance, and the pocket money, in the case of an EU country,” said Ana Maria Papp, Universities Department Manager at IntegralEdu, cited by local Profit.ro.

Present in Romania since 2008, IntegralEdu is the largest consulting company in education in the local market and represents more than 300 top educational institutions in Europe and the US.
