How much would the Schengen suspension affect Romania?
Romania is 15th in a ranking of the most affected countries in case of a Schengen suspension, according to American investment bank Morgan Stanley.
The economic impact would be the strongest in Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltic Countries, as well as Belgium, Holland, and Luxembourg, reports local Ziarul Financiar.
Romania would experience negative effects in commercial trade and air traffic. However, the Schengen suspension would affect local tourism less compared to other EU countries, as the tourism inside the EU countries has a reduced share in the GDP.
Hungary would suffer the most if border controls were introduced again, due to the high commercial integration with the rest of the European Union. Croatia would come next, followed by Estonia and Slovenia. Romania comes after Latvia and Belgium.
