How often do Romanians fly and what are their favorite destinations?
A recent study conducted by online tourism agency Paravion.ro reveals that Romanians travel to external destinations by plane as often as tourists from Turkey or Hungary, allocating comparable travel budgets.
On average, Romanians fly two times per year, the same as the Turks and the Hungarians. The study also shows that Romanians spend an average of EUR 300 per person per flight, close to the EUR 350 spent by Hungarians. By comparison, tourists from Turkey spend EUR 500 on average.
Romanians and Turks have similar favorite destinations, usually choosing to travel in Europe, according to Paravion.ro. Romanian tourists prefer to go to cities in Turkey, Greece, Spain, Italy, and Germany while the Turks usually choose Moscow, Paris, London, Kiev, and Greece. On the other hand, Hungarians prefer destinations such as Bangkok, Miami, Tokyo, New York, and Istanbul.
When it comes to what destinations tourists from Romania fly most frequently, the list includes Paris, Barcelona, London, Amsterdam, Antalya, Prague, Vienna, and Istanbul.
“The tourists from our country usually look for the best services and the price-quality ratio, the tourist attractions are the most important for the Turks, while the Hungarians take advantage of the fact that they don’t need a visa to the US,” said Remus Visan, Managing Director Paravio.ro.
There are also similarities between Romanians and Turks when it comes to using mobile devices for organizing their trips. In Romania, the bookings made via mobile app increased by 300% in 2015, representing a quarter of all mobile transactions made by Paravion clients with the smartphone. When it comes to Turkish tourists, 40% of their plane ticket bookings were made via the mobile app.
When it comes to what type of holiday Romanians prefer, the city breaks top the list, the study shows. The situation is similar in the Turks’ case. For this type of vacation, Romanians spend an average of EUR 250-350 per person, while the Turkish tourists spend EUR 500-1000.
For longer 7-day holidays, Romanians allocate an average budget of EUR 600-800 per person, close to the EUR 650-1000 budget allocated by the Turks.
