Book lovers to join in human chain around Romania’s People Palace for International Book Day
A book editing house in Romania will organize an event meant o promote reading and books: it invites Romanians to go round the People’s Palace in Bucharest carrying open books. The unusual event will take place on April 23, starting 18.30, and is named the Open Books Night. It is already at its third edition, and marks the International Book Day.
The organizers also provide the books: some 10,000 volumes will await participants, who will organize the longest human chain.
Romania thus joins other European countries which mark the International Book Day. In Spain, a two-day reading marathon is usually held. Elsewhere, an airline offers passengers free books on that day. In some countries, book giveaways are common on the same day.
In Romania, in previous years, people also received thousands of free books.
