IBM signs contract to create software for counting tourists in Romania
IBM Romania has won a tender to create a software that will allow the Tourism Ministry in the country to count the number of tourists in hotels across the country, in order to fight tax evasion. The value of the contract is of around EUR 0.5 million. The funding for this project is covered through EU money.
In the past there were differences between the number of tourists reported by the authorities and by the hotels. Statistics data shows that the number of tourists grew by 9.9 percent in Romania in the first five months of the year, while hotels reported a drop of 20 percent.
