IKEA brings wireless charging products to Romania this April

02 March 2015

IKEA will launch its first collection of wireless charging products for smartphones and tablets at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The new solution for transforming bedside tables, lamps and offices in loading hotspots will be available in North America and Europe, Romania included, starting April, according to a statement of the company.

This collection is part of Home Smart, a new development strategy of IKEA.

“According to our researches, people don’t like tangled cabled around the house. They are afraid of losing battery chargers and run out of battery. Our new solution that integrates wireless chargers into furniture items makes phones and tablets charging easier,” said Jeanette Skjelmose, Business Area Manager Lighting and Wireless Charging. Swede David Wahl is one of the product designers who worked on this collection.

IKEA partnered with Korean electronics Samsung, which unveiled the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The two smartphones feature the world’s first, universally compatible embedded wireless charging technology, according to Samsung. They will be available in stores worldwide starting April 10.

“Mobile devices have become a natural part of our lives – our ability to pair a simple wireless charging process with IKEA’s household furniture gives everyone the opportunity to more comfortable and conveniently enjoy their smartphone experience like never before,” said Jean-Daniel Ayme, Deputy President of European Telecommunication Operations at Samsung Electronics.

IKEA is a Swedish furniture and decorations retailer, founded in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad. The company opened the store in Bucharest, Romania, in 2007.
