Ikea Romania ups its employees’ gross minimum wage by a half

Swedish retailer Ikea Romania will increase the gross minimum wage of its full time employees by 47% to RON 2,000 (EUR 447) starting May.

The salary has increased from about RON 1,300 (EUR 290) to RON 1,700 (EUR 380) in January, and will reach RON 2,000 in May.

The group has started an alignment process among its subsidiaries in the South-East European region, reads a company press release. The region includes Romania, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia.

The Swedish company has 530 employees in Romania. It currently owns a single store in the local market, in Bucharest, but sees the potential for opening nine stores in Romania in the following years.

The store in Bucharest recorded sales of over RON 427 million (EUR 95.5 million), without VAT, last year.
