Integrity Agency checks Romanian Central Bank governor’s wealth
Mugur Isarescu, the governor of the Romanian Central Bank (BNR), owns three land plots, a house, an apartment and a holiday house.
He also owns jewelry worth over EUR 62,000, a numismatic collection of EUR 40,000, six bank accounts with over EUR 76,000 and a company with over 40 hectares of vineyards, according to his latest financial statement from November 2014.
Romania's Integrity Agency ANI is currently verifying Isarescu’ wealth, after it received a complaint, according to ANI sources, cited by local Ziarul Financiar.
Parakletos Association sent ANI a notification in February, which showed that Isarescu allegedly had a credit from Volksbank, which he declared in his 2007 financial statement. However, in the following statements, Isarescu declared the credit of RON 700,000 without mentioning the bank’s name, according to the Parakletos Association.
The association asked ANI to see if there is any conflict of interest between Mugur Isarescu’s position, as BNR governor, and the fact that he borrowed money from Volksbank.
