International Marathon brings traffic restrictions in Bucharest this weekend
Traffic restrictions will be applied on several streets in Romania’s capital on October 4 and October 5 for the Bucharest International Marathon.
On October 4, between 06:30 and 14:00, the traffic will be restricted on Unirii Blvd. in both directions, between Constitutiei Square and Regina Maria Blvd, according to a statement of the Romanian Police.
On Sunday, October 5, several traffic restrictions will be applied between 06:30 and 17:00:
- Constitutiei Square
- Libertatii Blvd. between George Cosbuc Square and Splaiul Independentei
- Unirii Blvd. between Alba Iulia Square and Constitutiei Square
- Decebal Blvd. between Alba Iulia Square and Hurmuzachi Square
- Basarabia Blvd. between Hurmuzachi Square and the intersection with Chisinau Blvd.
- National Arena area
- Halelor street, from IC Bratianu Blvd. until Splaiul Independentei
- Splaiul Independentei between Eroilor Bridge/Stirbei Voda and Unirii Square
- Calea Victoriei between the intersection with Splaiul Independentei and Kretzulescu Church
The police also recommends several alternative routes for drivers:
- Hurmuzachi Square – Calea Calarasilor - Corneliu Coposu Blvd. – Unirii Square – IC Bratianu Blvd. – Universitatii Square – Nicolae Balcescu Blvd. – Romana Square
- Tineretului Blvd. - Dimitrie Cantemir Blvd. – Unirii underpass - IC Bratianu Blvd. - Nicolae Balcescu Blvd. – Romana Square
- Calea Serban Voda - Dimitrie Cantemir Blvd. – Marasesti Blvd. – Octavian Goga Blvd. - Calea Dudesti – Mihai Bravu street – Mihai Bravu street
- Baba Novac – Mihai Bravu street – Muncii underpass – Mihai Bravu street
- Nicolae Grigorescu Blvd. – Chisinau Blvd. – Pantelimon street – Iancului Blvd. – Mihai Bravu street – Bucur Obor
Drivers are advised to use personal cars as little as possible to avoid traffic jams and choose public transport, park only in special places, and stay calm when driving while reducing speed when passing by a group of pedestrians. Drivers are also asked to avoid traveling in the area where the event takes place and to respect the police officers' signs.
The Bucharest International Marathon awaits runners to start the race this weekend in the Romanian capital, on October 4 and 5. The race of 21 km starts and ends in Piata Constitutiei. More about the event here.
