International movie producers buy largest cinema studios in Romania
Central European Media Enterprises (CME) has sold the local cinema studios MediaPro to a group of investors, which includes film producers from the USA and Romania.
Among the buyers are Romanian producer Bobby Paunescu and American producer Donald Kushner, known for the Oscar-winning movie Monster, starring Charlize Theron.
The MediaPro studios, which are located in Buftea, near Bucharest, are among the biggest studios in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The new shareholders will use the cinema complex as film studios, as well as for any other services connected to movie studios, said Paunescu.
CME, which is a media company operating on six major markets in CEE, still holds in Romania several TV stations, including Pro TV and MTV Romania. It also holds the video-on-demand service Voyo. The group has sold this year the local record company MediaPro Music and several important radio licenses, including Pro FM, Music FM or Dance FM. Local telecom player RCS&RDS bought these radio licenses.
