Fugitive Romanian businessman found in Italy

Romanian businessman Ioan Bene, who was sentenced to three years and eight months of jail time in a corruption case, was found in Italy.

Bene left the country just before the court announced the sentence against him. The Romanian authorities issued an European arrest warrant on him. He will be extradited to serve his conviction in Romania, local News.ro reported.

Ioan Bene was found guilty for bribing the former head of the Cluj County Council Horia Uioreanu for getting public contracts. Uioreanu was also sentenced to six years and four months in jail while another local businessman, Vasile Pogacean, got a three-year jail sentence in the same case.

Ioan Bene owns Napoca SA, one of the biggest construction companies in the Transylvania region.
